New Documentary on Barbara Morrison Focuses on Legendary Singer’s 

Love of Music and Community

A documentary about jazz and blues legend Barbara Morrison and her impact on music and humanity, is in the works. Filmmaker Tony Villani and Tim Morganfield, CEO of the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center and the California Jazz and Blues Museum, lead

 JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL MARKS SECOND YEAR

“Our goal with this festival is to always do a fundraiser for the California Jazz and Blues Museum to keep operations going,” said Timothy Morganfield, co-owner of The Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center and CEO of the California Jazz and Blues Museum. “This year we want to raise funds in order to re-open the California Jazz and Blues Museum within Leimert Park on Leimert Boulevard. We do have a location ready to go.” 

LA jazz legend Barbara Morrison dies at 72

 Beloved vocalist performed on a pair of Grammy-nominated albums, produced another and founded a performing arts theater and jazz/blues museum in Leimert Park. 

Barbara Morrison Square To Be Unveiled at Leimert Park Jazz Festival

 On the occasion of her 73rd birthday, this DCA festival commission commemorates the late Barbara Morrison, international empress of jazz and blues, community activist, educator and entrepreneur, with the unveiling of Barbara Morrison Square at 43rd and Degnan, officiated by the 10th District Council Office.  

The City of Angels Loses Two Guiding Jazz Spirits

 Morrison (Sept. 10, 1949 – March 16, 2022) was far better documented during her career than Andrews, recording some two dozen albums of her own while appearing as a guest artist on projects with everyone from Johnny Otis and Jimmy Smith to Doc Severinsen and Kenny Burrell. A jazz-informed blues singer who could swing with authority, she thrived in the expansive Venn diagram terrain where jazz and blues overlap.
